LGBTQ Roundtable Mediator/Facilitator

 

Job Summary Statement

Seeking an LGBTQ+ competent mediator/facilitator to lead a 2-day retreat. The goals of the retreat are to address past negative issues within the LGBTQ community and its organizations, to dispel rumors and grudges, build trust, and create the ability to move forward in partnership. Applicants should be open to potentially leading several follow up sessions over the next year with specific goals to be determined based on the retreat.

 

Essential Qualifications/Experience

  • Minimum 5 years experience working with the LGBTQ community 

  • Minimum 2 years experience as a facilitator/mediator

  • Experience working with organizations and people in high-stress environments/communities and the intersections of LGBTQ issues

  • Awareness with bi-national/multi-cultural/multi-racial communities, including challenges such as addiction, mental illness, trauma, lack of healthcare and social services, barriers to care,  racial group conflicts, mixed documentation status families, and homelessness

  • Mastery of, and ability to teach best practices for inter-organizational relations

  • Able to manage complex relationship dynamics

  • Uses an interactive facilitation method

  • Able to effectively facilitate in a virtual setting via video conferencing (organizations have Zoom accounts that can use breakout rooms, chat, and other features).

  • Engages participants with an empathetic and positive facilitation approach 

  • Able to draw out and emphasize individual and collective strengths, and acknowledge the deep and rich gifts, resources, wisdom, and traditions of this community

  • No specific certifications required 

 

During COVID-19 - Interact virtually with the group

 

After COVID-19 Conditions - Be open to possible face to face interactions

 

Preferred Qualifications/Experience

  • Must have a flexible schedule, weekends and evenings will be required

  • Ability to work both independently and as a member of a team

  • Experience doing outreach to diverse populations

  • Crisis management skills

  • High level of professionalism, awareness of appropriate comportment with varying groups (some requiring a high level of formality, some which require a more informal approach), awareness of personal boundaries and of scope of function of the mediator/facilitator

  • Outstanding interpersonal and organizational skills

  • Strong verbal and written communications skills

  • Computer Skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

  • Familiarity with social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, etc.

  • Bilingual (Spanish/English) strongly preferred
