You are a social work/mental health provider.
A woman walks into your office for help.
She is carrying a young child.
She is homeless.
She is a Lesbian.
She is a woman of color.
She is Deaf.
Are you prepared?

"Privilege" has become quite the buzz word, and it is most often met with defensiveness and even outright hostility. Understanding privilege, and the complexity of our intersectional identities is crucial in being a competent provider and becoming an ally. To be an ally is to make choices to change and do better. Not just one choice, but hundreds of choices every day.
Attendees will:
Identify various types of privilege and the ways in which they manifest
Discuss systemic oppression of marginalized groups
Identify common microaggressions experienced by marginalized groups
Discuss what it means to be an ally
Develop skills to advocate and engage in allyship
Learn about opportunities to engage in allyship
