what is drag story hour?

Drag Story Hour (DSH) is just what it sounds like—drag queens reading stories to children in libraries, schools, and bookstores. DSH captures the imagination and play of the gender fluidity of childhood and gives kids glamorous, positive, and unabashedly queer role models. In spaces like this, kids are able to see people who defy rigid gender restrictions and imagine a world where people can present as they wish, where dress up is real.

Drag Queen Story Hour - El Paso was founded by Alison Westermann with a committee made up of interested and committed individuals representing the El Paso Public Library system as well as the Borderland Rainbow Center and other area librarians and educators in February 2019.  The chapter is currently coordinated by Dede Camacho, a local drag performer and activist.

Join us once a month (online during the COVID-19 pandemic) to read age-appropriate and timely books for children and participate in coordinated arts and crafts activities.  Check out our calendar for the next Story Hour!
