Samuel Terrazas, PhD, LCSW
Dr. Terrazas is from Southern Florida, and obtained his graduate degree at Barry University. He received a tenure position in 2019 at the University of Texas Permian Basin, and currently holds the position as Academic Chair in the Department of Social Work. Dr. Terrazas has taught in both undergraduate and graduate social work programs, and has over 17 years of professional social work practice in areas of community mental health, administration, community organization, and private practice. He has conducted research in the areas of mental health among Latino Farmworkers, child welfare, LGBTQI foster youth, secondary trauma, and professional supervision. His current research study is funded by the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services (DFPS), and is designed to decrease the number of days children remain in foster care. Dr. Terrazas's international research study, in Kenya, Africa, centers on the installation of Trauma Informed Care strategies in a rural residential school. He presented his findings at state and national conferences, and published his research in peer reviewed journals.
