The BRC offers a wide variety of LGBTQ-focused sensitivity and cultural competency trainings and workshops.

Current Workshops Available Include:

LGBTQ 101 Sensitivity Training - the basics: includes terminology; sex vs. gender, basic best practices, and local / national resources (usually 2 hours).

LGBTQ 201 Tailored Training - training created specifically for your Agency or Office Context - this can include role plays and case scenarios appropriate to your industry (length is flexible, CEU credits available).

Supporting LGBTQ Students for Teachers - quick review of current terms, best practices for creating inclusive and safe classroom spaces, core competencies for ensuring equity for all students, resources. (1 to 2 hours).

Supporting LGBTQ Students for School Counselors - quick review of current terms, core competencies for ensuring LGBTQ-friendly counseling for K-12 students, addressing parent concerns, local and national resources (usually 2 hours, CEU credits available).

LGBTQ Sensitivity for Medical/Social Service Staff - core competencies for ensuring LGBTQ-friendly patient/client services, quick review of current terms, agency policy and intake best practices, local and national resources.

LGBTQ Affirming Therapy - definition of LGBTQ affirming therapy (as opposed to LGBTQ-friendly therapy), core competencies, quick review of current terms, case examples and role plays including intake for transgender/non-binary teens, working with non-supporting parents, agency policy and intake best practices, local and national resources, recommendations of peer reviewed literature (2-3 hours, CEU credits available).

Working with LGBTQ Children and Middle Schoolers - age-appropriate strategies for working with children, core competencies for ensuring LGBTQ-friendly services, quick review of current terms, local and national resources.

HIV, AIDS and STI Education - covers safer-sex practices, signs and symptoms of STIs, risk-factors, myths vs. facts regarding STIs, local testing and treatment resources.

Safe Zone Training - how to create a "safe zone" in your office or agency, includes strategies for organizational and policy-based considerations 

Safe Zone Train-the-Trainer - Training to equip your staff to train others in the agency or organization.  Help maintain Safe Zone culture and know-how for your whole organization.
