“Maintaining and Ethical Inner Balance:
Daring Greatly in Social Services: Building Shame Resilience"
Presented by Monica Faulkner, PhD, LMSW - Director, Research Associate Professor, Foster Care Liaison, University of Texas at Austin, Steve Hicks School of Social Work Texas Institute of Child & Family Wellbeing
Shame is present in our work with clients, our organizations and our interactions with each other. In this interactive workshop, Dr. Faulkner will discuss how shame shows up in our workplaces and how it impacts us as workers. We will discuss how to build shame resilience by understanding shame, being aware of our values and living within those values. Content is based on teachings and writings of Dr. Brene Brown, specifically Dare to Lead.
Learning Objectives:
1) Understand how shame is present for professionals and clients;
2) Identify one's personal and professional values and identify the specific behaviors that align with those values;
3) Begin to understand how values clarification is essential to the development of professional resiliency.
